The Fluval Motor Seal Ring Gasket is a replacement part for Fluval 304, 305, 306 / 404, 405, 406 Canister Filters. Yearly replacement of the Motor Seal Ring Gasket is recommended. The rubber seal will perish over time and will lead to leaking of canister if not replaced. Clean and lubricate the gasket every three months. Wet the seal ring with water before replacing. Do NOT use petroleum jelly based products.

Replace once a year or so
I never even thought to replace this when my filter was making a bunch of noise. It had been in storage for about 3 years. When I went to use it it rattled so badly! I replaced the impeller and other parts on the filter motor head. This is just something that needs to be done every couple of years. The filter can suck air in around dry rotted o rings. They are so cheap so go ahead and replace them for your filter to work best. It really needs to be airtight to be as quiet as possible.
